Power source
Petrol engine water pump: a petrol engine is used as the power. Petrol is burned in the engine cylinder, and the heat generated pushes the piston to move, which in turn transmits the power to the water pump through the crankshaft connecting rod mechanism, driving the water pump impeller to rotate. For example, in some outdoor farm irrigation scenarios where there is no electricity supply, petrol engine water pumps can conveniently work using petrol as fuel.
Electric water pump: relies on an electric motor to drive it. When the electric motor is connected to the power supply, the stator winding generates a rotating magnetic field, which causes the rotor to rotate under force, thus driving the water pump impeller to rotate. In scenarios such as changing water in an indoor aquarium or draining water in a factory floor with a stable power supply, electric water pumps can work directly connected to the power supply.
Performance
Power and flow rate
Petrol engine water pump: the power range is wide, the flow rate of small power petrol engine water pump may be in a few cubic metres per hour to dozens of cubic metres per hour, and the high power one can reach hundreds of cubic metres per hour. Its power and flow rate is affected by the performance of the engine, some of the large petrol engine water pumps used for flood rescue, the flow rate can quickly discharge a large amount of water.
Electric water pump: power is generally relatively small, the flow rate will also be subject to motor power and pump design limitations. However, for domestic water supply and other scenarios, the general flow of electric water pumps can meet the daily use, such as small household electric water pump flow may be in the 1 - 10 cubic metres per hour or so.
Pressure (head)
Petrol engine water pumps: usually have a high head and are capable of transporting water to higher locations or longer distances. This is because petrol engines are powerful and can provide enough energy for the pump to overcome a large resistance, some industrial petrol pumps can have a head of tens or even hundreds of metres.
Electric water pump: the head is relatively low, especially small electric water pump. But there are also high-pressure electric water pump, but its power is generally larger. The average household electric water pump for showers or simple water supply for multi-storey houses may have a head of around 10 - 30 metres.
Ease of use
Portability
Petrol engine water pumps: with their own independent fuel power system, they do not require an external power source and are therefore highly mobile, making them easy to use in the field, in remote areas and other places where there is no electricity supply. It is relatively large in size and weight, but is generally equipped with easy-to-move wheels and handrails for easy handling and transfer of the work site.
Electric water pump: smaller in size and lighter in weight, it is convenient to use in places where there is a power outlet. However, if there is no power supply or far away from the power supply, you need a longer power cord or with the help of a generator to provide electricity, which to a certain extent limits the scope of its use.
Starting operation
Petrol engine water pump: Before starting, you need to check the petrol and oil levels, which makes the operation relatively complicated. When starting, you need to pull the starter rope or through the electric starter to start the petrol engine, and the petrol engine in the process of operation will produce greater noise.
Electric water pump: simple operation, usually only need to plug in the power supply, press the start button can work. And electric water pumps run less noise, especially some small for indoor electric water pumps, almost no interference noise.
Maintenance cost
Gasoline engine water pump: because of the engine, you need to regularly replace the oil, air filter, spark plugs and other components, the maintenance cost is relatively high. And the maintenance of the engine requires certain professional knowledge and skills, if the engine fails, the maintenance is more complicated.
Electric water pump: mainly motor and pump maintenance, such as checking the insulation of the motor, pump sealing and so on. In general, as long as the normal use of electric water pump maintenance costs are relatively low, and the motor has a long service life, fault repair is relatively simple.
Safety
Gasoline engine water pump: using gasoline as fuel, there is a certain fire hazard. In the operation process, the high temperature and exhaust gas produced by the engine also need to pay attention to protection to avoid scalding and poisoning and other situations. At the same time, petrol engines have more running parts, which may cause mechanical injuries if they are not carefully touched during operation.
Electric water pumps: if used improperly in a humid environment, there may be a risk of electric shock. However, as long as you do a good job of grounding and waterproof measures, the safety of normal use is high. And electric water pumps do not have a combustion process and exhaust emissions, relatively environmentally friendly and safe!
